Creevykeel Court Tomb, Neolithic court tomb in Sligo Municipal Borough District, Ireland.
Creevykeel Court Tomb is a Neolithic stone chamber in Sligo made up of connected rooms built from large rocks. The structure has an elongated shape with an open court area in the middle where people could gather.
The tomb was built around 4000 to 2500 BC when the first farmers from Europe arrived in Ireland. These people brought new farming skills and changed how the island was settled.
The name comes from the nearby crossroads, and it served as a place where communities gathered for burial rituals and shared ceremonies. People used the court space to honor their dead as a group.
The site lies just north of the main N15 road connecting Donegal and Sligo and is easy to reach on foot. It is open year-round and offers good views of the surrounding farmland.
Medieval metalworkers in the 12th century reused part of the tomb as a workshop to smelt and work metal. The traces of this later activity are still visible in the stones.
