Model Arts and Niland Gallery, Contemporary art museum and arts centre in Sligo, Ireland.
Model Arts and Niland Gallery is an art museum and cultural centre in Sligo with multiple exhibition spaces, a cinema, concert halls, and artist studios. The building offers views across Sligo town and the surrounding landscape.
The building was constructed in 1862 as a Model School and displays Italian Palazzo style, designed by architect James Owen. It was converted into an arts centre in 2001.
The Niland Collection displays over 300 works by Irish artists and houses significant paintings by Jack Butler Yeats, Paul Henry, and Louis le Brocquy. These works form the core of the venue and draw art lovers from across the region.
Many galleries can be visited free of charge, and the centre offers art workshops, film screenings, and music performances throughout the year. Visits can be planned flexibly as various events happen regularly.
The building was enlarged by one-third in 2010 and gained new life as an internationally-recognized cultural facility. This expansion created additional spaces and modernized the existing building's infrastructure.
