Avondale House, Georgian manor house in County Wicklow, Ireland.
Avondale House is a three-story manor with Georgian architectural features set in County Wicklow. Its rooms display detailed plasterwork, tall sash windows overlooking woodland, and original furnishings spanning different periods.
The house was constructed in 1777 following designs by architect James Wyatt for Samuel Hayes. It later became the birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell, an influential Irish politician of the 19th century.
The house served as a family home for the Parnells, whose name remains connected to Irish political life and identity. Rooms display personal objects and furnishings that show how the household functioned during their time there.
Plan to spend two or three hours exploring the house rooms and viewing the exhibitions on display. The building has multiple levels with stairs, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended when moving between floors.
The woodland surrounding the house contains unusual tree species including giant redwoods from California and Sitka spruce from British Columbia. These exotic varieties were planted over generations and give the grounds a botanical character rarely found in Irish estates.
