Glendalough, Medieval monastery in County Wicklow, Ireland.
The ancient stone structures of Glendalough include a 30-meter round tower, cathedral ruins, and multiple churches spread across a valley with two lakes.
Saint Kevin established the monastic settlement in the 6th century, which expanded into a center of learning before English forces destroyed it in 1398.
The remaining structures demonstrate early Irish Christian architecture with features like decorated chancel arches and stone roofing techniques specific to medieval Ireland.
Visitors can access nine marked walking trails of different lengths around the monastery and lakes, with the site open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The round tower entrance sits 3.5 meters above ground level, requiring ladders for access to its six internal wooden floors used for storage and protection.
