Cloghernagh is a mountain in County Wicklow that rises to about 800 meters at its peak. The slopes are covered with heather and several hiking paths lead to the summit.
The mountain was shaped by ice movements during the last ice age, forming its landscape since that time. These geological processes left the rocky outcrops that remain visible today.
The name comes from Irish and means 'stony place,' reflecting the rocky character of the mountain. Visitors can observe these stone formations scattered across the slopes throughout their visit.
Hikers can reach the summit via several routes, with the most direct path starting from Glen Road on the eastern side. It is wise to wear sturdy footwear and watch the weather, as conditions at the top can change quickly.
The mountain contains a high-altitude lake called Arts Lough, which is surrounded by purple heather. In summer months particularly, this colorful combination creates a striking landscape.
