Bantry House, Estate mansion in Bantry, Ireland
Bantry House is a white stone mansion overlooking Bantry Bay with seven garden terraces that descend through the surrounding hills. The structure integrates the main building with the landscape through these tiered outdoor spaces.
Construction began in 1710, and Richard White purchased the property in 1739, after which his family maintained ownership through the centuries. The house developed under successive generations of the same lineage.
The rooms showcase furniture, tapestries, and artworks collected by the second Earl of Bantry during his travels across Europe in the 1830s. These personal acquisitions reflect the tastes and cosmopolitan connections of the aristocracy during that era.
The house and gardens are open to visitors from March through October, with tours beginning in the morning and concluding in the late afternoon. The location is accessible year-round, though weather and season will affect the outdoor experience.
The garden ascends through over one hundred stone steps crossing multiple terraced sections, surrounded by flowering plants with views toward the bay. This stairway configuration becomes remarkable when you realize how it winds through the entire slope.
