Dunguaire Castle, Medieval castle in Kinvara, Ireland

The stone tower house rises 75 feet above the southeastern shore of Galway Bay, featuring a restored defensive wall and battlements.

The O'Hynes clan constructed this fortification in 1520, which later passed to the Martyn family who maintained control until the mid-17th century.

During the early 20th century, the castle became a meeting place for Irish literary figures including W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw.

The castle opens from April through September, offering guided tours during daytime hours and traditional banquets with local food in the evenings.

The castle's name originates from King Guaire of Connacht, whose fort previously stood at this location in the 7th century.
