Faddan More Psalter, Early medieval psalter from County Tipperary, Ireland
The Faddan More Psalter contains sixty vellum sheets divided into five gatherings, with Latin text written in a single column format.
The manuscript dates from around 800 CE and remained preserved in a peat bog until its discovery by a bulldozer driver in July 2006.
The psalter demonstrates the religious practices of Irish monks, featuring decorated capitals at the start of psalms 1, 51, and 101.
The manuscript resides at the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin, where specialists completed extensive conservation work between 2006 and 2010.
The leather cover includes papyrus lining from Egypt and features three horn buttons with a fold-over flap for securing the manuscript.
