River Suir Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Waterford and County Kilkenny, Ireland
River Suir Bridge is a cable-stayed structure crossing the river between County Waterford and County Kilkenny. The main span stretches approximately 230 meters, supported by cables extending from a tall central tower, with the complete bridge measuring roughly 475 meters.
Construction began in 2009 and uncovered a Viking settlement at Woodstown, leading to design modifications to protect the archaeological remains. This discovery during building work revealed the area's deep past.
The bridge received the name Thomas Francis Meagher Bridge in 2015, commemorating the Irish nationalist leader from the Young Irelander Rebellion of 1848.
The bridge carries four lanes of the N25 road and links two counties on a major transport corridor. Vehicles can cross at any time of day, with the crossing taking just a minute or two.
Shortly after opening, it held the record for the longest single span of its kind in the Republic of Ireland. This achievement was surpassed only when another major bridge was completed several years later.
