Dardistown Castle

Dardistown Castle is a square tower fortress in County Meath with four corner turrets rising to about 50 feet. Inside, multiple floors feature fireplaces and wooden ceilings in each level.

John Cornwalsh built the fortress in 1465 during a period when such strongholds were being established across Ireland. The structure saw different phases of occupation and change over the following centuries.

The castle carries the mark of the Talbot family, who held the estate for generations and shaped its character. Their presence remains visible in the rooms and how the space is arranged.

Access to the structure is available only during certain months, so it is wise to check opening periods beforehand. Viewing the interior requires sure footing, as you will climb stairs and navigate multiple floors.

One staircase in a corner turret spirals counter-clockwise, contrary to what you would expect in fortifications of this era. This unusual design feature is something most visitors walk past without noticing.
