Dún na Rí Forest Park, Protected forest park near Kingscourt, Ireland.

Dún na Rí Forest Park is a protected woodland area near Kingscourt, covering several hundred acres with multiple walking trails winding through the landscape. These paths follow the Cabra River and pass through forests of oak, ash, and other tree species, as well as historical structures like castle ruins.

The land was originally held by the O'Reilly family until the late 16th century, when Thomas Fleming acquired it and built a castle on the grounds. The Pratt family later took possession and developed the Cabra Estate.

The place carries connections to Irish mythology, with stories of a legendary hero finding refuge in these woods during ancient conflicts. These tales remain part of the local identity today.

The park offers four marked walking trails of varying lengths that guide visitors through the woodland and past historical structures. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather, especially in the damper areas near the river where the ground can be muddy.

The grounds contain an Ice House and a historic holy well called Toba na Splinne that most visitors overlook. The river and woodland support red squirrels, stoats, otters, and mink that can be spotted along the water, adding to the sense of undisturbed nature.
