Croaghgorm

Croaghgorm, Mountain summit in County Donegal, Ireland

Croaghgorm is the highest summit of the Bluestack Mountains in County Donegal and stands at 674 meters. The range features varied terrain with several established entry points for those making the climb.

The mountain slopes hold remnants of a World War II aircraft crash that occurred during military operations in the region. This wartime incident left marks on the landscape that persist to the present day.

The mountain's name comes from Irish, meaning 'the blue stack'. Local people refer to the entire range by a name that reflects this same heritage.

The climb is best approached from one of the main entry points such as Barnsmore Gap or Edergole Farm, depending on your preferred direction. The terrain varies between rocky sections and grassland, so sturdy footwear and caution in changing conditions are advisable.

From the summit, the views sweep across southern Donegal and on clear days reach toward the distant hills of Sligo and Leitrim. This expansive outlook reveals how the range connects to other mountain regions across the wider landscape.
