Shankill Castle is a fortified residence in County Kilkenny featuring Georgian staircases, Gothic plasterwork, and Victorian rooms throughout its interior. The estate sits within formal gardens arranged with lime tree avenues and laurel lawns.

Construction began as a Butler tower-house, then Peter Aylward purchased the property in 1708 and rebuilt it into a castellated residence with formal landscaping. This 18th-century redesign created the structure visitors see today.

Shankill Castle is the home of the artist Elizabeth Cope and her husband Geoffrey, and the Toler-Aylward branch of the Butler family lived here until 1991. The castle runs a residency programme for artists and creative professionals through ResArtis.

Visitors walk the grounds and gardens on their own, while the house is seen on guided tours; the Spanish source lists tour prices of three to six euros. The castle stands in parkland near Paulstown, on the Carlow/Kilkenny border, so approach it from that road side.

Three trees at Shankill are listed in the Tree Register of Ireland, compiled by the Tree Council of Ireland: a Commoime, a Wellingtonia Giant Sequoia and two Cupressus macrocarpa. The register records them as notable specimens in the grounds.
