Gowran Castle, Early 19th-century country house in County Kilkenny, Ireland
The castle features a seven-bay layout with a two-storey design, rusticated limestone walls, and a prominent three-bay pedimented breakfront at the entrance.
Built between 1815 and 1820 for Henry Welbore Agar-Ellis, Viscount Clifden, the castle replaced an earlier structure from 1713 on the same location.
The property includes Saint Mary's Church with its medieval tombs, reflecting the continuous presence of noble families in the Gowran region.
The castle remains closed to visitors since 2004, with only external viewings possible from the surrounding streets of Gowran village.
The castle incorporates original Crown glazing panels in hornless sash frames, demonstrating precise early nineteenth-century construction techniques.
