Roscrea Castle, Medieval fortress in Roscrea, Ireland
The stone castle features a 40-meter-wide courtyard enclosed by thick curtain walls, accompanied by two round towers and a three-story gate building.
Built between 1274 and 1295 under John de Lydyard's supervision, the castle replaced an earlier wooden structure and required an investment of over 875 pounds.
The castle complex includes Damer House, a Georgian residence constructed in 1728, which now contains an art gallery established by artists Patricia Hurl and Therry Rudin.
Visitors can explore the castle grounds Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with adult admission priced at 5 euros and family tickets at 13 euros.
The southeastern tower contains multiple levels while the southwest Ormond Tower preserves a fireplace dating from the seventeenth century.
