McDermott's Castle, Medieval castle on Castle Island in Lough Key, County Roscommon, Ireland
The stone fortress stands on a small island of 0.23 hectares, featuring remaining medieval walls and a 19th-century tower with crenellations.
The original castle from the 12th century burned down in 1184 after a lightning strike, leading to the construction of subsequent fortifications by the MacDermott clan.
The castle holds the legend of Una Bhan, a tale of forbidden love between a clan chief's daughter and her beloved, which inspired W.B. Yeats' poetry.
Access to the castle requires boat transportation from the Lough Key Forest Park, with guided tours available during spring and summer months.
The castle served as a filming location for the television series Moone Boy in 2014, featuring actors Steve Coogan and Johnny Vegas.
