Wexford Arts Centre, Arts center in historic Cornmarket building, County Wexford, Ireland.
Wexford Arts Centre is a neoclassical building with five bays facing John's Gate Street in County Wexford. The ground floor features a market hall layout, while the upper floor contains an assembly room with generous proportions.
The building was completed in 1776 and served as Wexford Town Hall, hosting borough council meetings for nearly two centuries. It was converted into an arts center in 1974 to serve the public cultural needs.
The center hosts year-round visual art exhibitions, theater performances, and music concerts that shape the local cultural scene. These events draw people from the region who come to experience and participate in the artistic life of the town.
The center is open weekdays from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. The building is centrally located in the town, making it easy to reach on foot with nearby parking available.
American abolitionist Frederick Douglass delivered a speech in the assembly hall to a Quaker audience during his visit in October 1845. This historical event connects the space to an important moment in the movement against slavery.
