Netanya, Coastal city in HaSharon subdistrict, Israel

Netanya is a coastal city in the HaSharon subdistrict in Israel and occupies a stretch of about 14 kilometers along the Mediterranean shore. The seafront features blocks of apartments and hotels that face the water, with paved walkways running parallel to the beaches.

The town was established in February 1929 as a planned settlement and took its name from Nathan Straus, a Jewish merchant and philanthropist from the United States. Municipal status followed in 1932 as the population and built area expanded.

The city houses numerous art galleries, theaters, and performance venues that regularly present exhibitions and shows from local and international artists.

The city connects to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem by bus and train, with frequent daily services on both routes. Orientation remains straightforward along the coast, as main streets run parallel to the shore.

Sports schools for windsurfing and kitesurfing cluster along the northern beaches, where steady breezes from the northwest become especially noticeable in summer. Local swimming pools and tennis courts also host regional competitions throughout the season.
