Skhul cave, Archaeological site in Nahal Me'arot Nature Reserve, Israel.
The Skhul Cave contains multiple chambers with prehistoric artifacts and skeletal remains located three kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea.
Excavations starting in 1929 by Dorothy Garrod revealed human skeletons dating back between 100,000 and 200,000 years, marking early Homo sapiens presence.
The cave received its name from the Arabic word al-Skhool, meaning young goat, and holds evidence of ancient burial practices.
The site remains open to visitors through the Nahal Me'arot Nature Reserve, with informational displays explaining the archaeological discoveries.
The cave contains remains showing both Neanderthal and modern human characteristics, providing critical data about human evolution and migration patterns.
