Mount Horshan Reserve

Mount Horshan Reserve is a protected area in the Menashe Heights featuring Mediterranean vegetation and diverse plant life across rolling elevations. The terrain includes archaeological remains and forms part of a hilly corridor linking the surrounding mountain ranges.

This reserve was established to protect an area rich in archaeological layers spanning different periods of settlement and civilization. The Menashe Heights have long served as a geographical link between major mountain systems in the region.

A memorial here honors Joop Westerweel, a Dutch resistance fighter who saved Jewish people during World War II before his execution. This remembrance gives the place meaning beyond its natural value for those who visit.

Check access conditions before visiting since some areas overlap with military training zones, particularly south of Bat Shlomo. Stick to marked paths and be aware of restricted zones to ensure a safe experience.

Natural springs and streams flow through the reserve, creating seasonal meadows where wildflowers bloom abundantly in spring. These water features create a lush green pocket within the drier surrounding hillsides, surprising many visitors.
