Binyamin's Pool
Binyamin's Pool is a water reservoir built in 1891 in Zikhron Ya'akov by Baron Rothschild, located on Hameyasdim Street in the old town center. Behind it stands an aqueduct called the Arches House, which was part of the first steam-powered water system in Israel that lifted water up the mountain.
The reservoir was built in 1891 by Baron Rothschild to supply water to the young settlement founded by Romanian immigrants in 1882. In 1988, the site was officially declared a protected national heritage site.
The pool sits on Hameyasdim Street, the main path through the old settlement, where visitors see historic buildings and narrow walkways. The place reflects how early residents organized their community and depended on water systems to survive.
The site is easily accessible and suitable for families with children, with free parking available nearby. Visitors can explore at their own pace without set hours, and can easily wander the narrow streets and historic buildings of the old town around it.
The aqueduct behind it was the first steam-powered water system in Israel that pumped water uphill, showing how innovative the settlement's founders were. The local council is now working to restore this early water system and make it accessible for visitors to explore.
