Rama cinema, Movie theater in Ramat Gan, Israel.
Rama Cinema is a building featuring Art Deco elements situated at the corner of Bialik Street and Jabotinsky Street with seating for about 1000 people. An adjacent cafe with the same name created a complete entertainment complex for the community before it closed in 1982.
The cinema opened on May 28, 1938, with a ceremony attended by the British District Governor and a performance by the Eretz Israel Symphony Orchestra. This grand opening marked its start as a significant cultural venue in the region.
The cinema served as a gathering place for the community and screened Egyptian films in its early years, attracting audiences from neighboring Arab villages. These screenings reflected the region's diverse cultural connections and made the venue a window into Middle Eastern artistic expression.
The building sits at a prominent street corner and is easy to spot, especially because of its Art Deco facade. Today it is part of a larger building complex, so visitors should plan to view it from the street and appreciate the preserved original exterior.
In 2010, the original cinema facade was integrated into a new 23-story residential tower, preserving the building's historical exterior. This approach to redevelopment showed how developers respected an old site while creating a modern complex.
