Steel Division Memorial, Military memorial in Hevel Shalom, Israel

The Steel Division Memorial stands beside Route 232 in Hevel Shalom, about 2 km west of Moshav Yated. At its centre is a 25-metre tower with 117 steps leading to a viewing balcony, surrounded by 400 concrete pillars; some pillars hold armoured-vehicle parts, and plaques at the front list the units and the 176 fallen of the 84th Division.

The memorial was built under the direction of architect Israel Meir Goodovitch and opened to the public on June 15, 1982. It was established as part of the military monuments collection in the Eshkol Regional Council.

This memorial honors the role of the 84th Armored Division in Israel's military history and provides visitors with insights into their operations and combat missions. The inscriptions and plaques on site tell the stories of soldiers who fell during their service.

The site is accessible to visitors and offers multilingual informational plaques for understanding the memorial. Allow time to read the inscriptions and view the structural elements at a comfortable pace.

The tower has 117 steps up to a viewing balcony, and the 400 concrete pillars around it are more than the 295 at the original Yamit site. Some pillars hold armored vehicle parts or weapons, placed there after metal thieves stripped the originals. About 400 meters away stand the preserved walls of Yamit's private houses.
