Khayat Garden, Public garden in Haifa, Israel
Khayat Garden is a public garden in Haifa with multiple terraces, decorative plantings, fruit trees, waterfalls, and irrigation channels woven into the natural ravine landscape. The design connects different elevation levels, allowing visitors to move through distinct areas at their own pace.
The garden was founded during the British Mandate period by Azeez Khayat, a member of a prominent Haifa family, taking advantage of the Ein Siah spring. It emerged as a blend of local and Western design traditions from its creation.
The garden has served as inspiration for artist Yitzhak Danziger and his architecture students at the Technion, driving various restoration efforts over time. The collaboration between artists and the community continues to shape how the space is experienced.
The garden is open throughout daylight hours and managed by Haifa Municipality, making it an accessible green retreat within the city. Visitors should be prepared for uneven ground and steps due to the ravine terrain.
Nestled in Wadi Siah, the garden merges concrete-coated stones with traditional agricultural elements, creating an uncommon mix of modern and classical approaches. This blend of craft techniques with contemporary materials is rarely seen in the region.
