IDF Marine Commando Disaster Memorial, Military memorial in Shavei Tzion, Israel.

The IDF Marine Commando Disaster Memorial stands on a flat platform of coastal rock about 200 metres south of Shavei Tzion's bathing beach. Its centrepiece is twelve kurkar sandstone beams, each three metres long, brought from Malta and set as if collapsed, resting on one another to form the silhouette of a ship. To the right, a separate rock carries the Shayetet 13 emblem, the memorial's name and the names of the fallen in bronze letters, with a verse by Nathan Alterman below.

The memorial commemorates the 11 soldiers of Shayetet 13 and the doctor killed in the 1997 naval disaster in Lebanon. It was initiated by Michal Levin-Bluch, mother of Ram Levin, a fallen commando from Shavei Tzion, designed by Bernie Fink and inaugurated on 30 June 1999. A navy missile boat was sunk offshore as a second memorial.

The memorial was built on the initiative of Michal Levin-Bluch, mother of Ram Levin, a fallen commando from Shavei Tzion. A rock beside the stones carries the Shayetet emblem, the memorial's name and the fallen men's names in bronze letters, with a verse by Nathan Alterman beneath, originally written for soldier Uri Ilan and set here in the plural.

The memorial stands on a platform of flat coastal rocks about 200 metres south of Shavei Tzion's bathing beach, reached by walking south along the shore from the beach. The ground is sand and low rock, so sturdy shoes help. A sunken navy missile boat lies in the sea opposite the beach as a second memorial.

Among the names on the memorial is that of a young officer from the local community of Shavei Tzion itself, which ties the memorial closely to the town's own history. This personal connection makes the site a special place of remembrance for residents within their own community.
