Kloster S. Salvator auf dem Berg Tabor, Benedictine monastery on Mount Tabor, Israel

Kloster S. Salvator auf dem Berg Tabor is a Benedictine monastery situated on a mountain plateau in northern Israel. The complex displays stone walls and religious buildings that span several periods of occupation and reconstruction.

Tancred of Tiberias founded the monastery in 1100, and it operated continuously until the late 12th century. Following the Battle of Hattin in 1187, the monks abandoned the site and relocated to Acre.

The monastery became a center for Christian worship that drew pilgrims to this mountain for generations. Monks shaped the spiritual identity of the region and established this elevated location as a destination for religious devotion.

Access to the monastery is gained through a path that leads to the entrance gate, and the surroundings on the mountain are navigable. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for the open terrain of the plateau.

The grounds contain foundations from the original 12th century Benedictine structure that visitors can still trace. Additional ruins show evidence of a fortified installation that was constructed later between 1211 and 1213.
