Jalandhar

Jalandhar is a city in northwestern Punjab that serves as the administrative center of Jalandhar District and sits roughly two hundred twenty-eight meters above sea level. The urban area spreads across neighborhoods that mix residential blocks, commercial zones, and industrial sections connected by wide roads and narrower lanes.

The city takes its name from Hindu texts that tell of a demon king who fought Shiva in ancient times. Over centuries, the settlement grew into a trading center that later came under different rulers and was incorporated into the new state of Punjab after India's partition.

The local population celebrates major festivals including Lohri, Baisakhi, and Gurpurab, while maintaining religious structures such as temples, mosques, and gurudwaras.
