Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Multi-purpose sports stadium in Jalandhar, India.
Guru Gobind Singh Stadium is a multi-purpose sports venue in New Jawahar Nagar, Jalandhar, in the Indian state of Punjab, used for football, kabaddi, and other events. It has two double-decker stands that make up most of the seating, along with changing rooms, administrative offices, and media facilities.
The stadium opened in 1971 and served for decades as a regional venue for local competitions in Jalandhar. A major renovation completed in 2009 prepared it to host the first ever World Kabaddi Cup in 2010.
The stadium is named after the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, and that connection matters to many people who come here. Kabaddi is the sport that draws the biggest crowds, as the game is deeply rooted in Punjab and followed with great passion across the region.
The stadium is located in the New Jawahar Nagar area and is easy to reach from the main roads surrounding the neighborhood. Parking is available on both sides of the ground for those arriving by car.
The double-decker stands were built not for visual effect but because the city roads surrounding the site made it impossible to expand the ground outward. Going upward was the only way to add more seating without taking more land.
