Adilabad district, Administrative district in Telangana, India
The district extends across 4,153 square kilometers of northern Telangana, containing 508 villages organized into 18 administrative blocks with Adilabad town as its capital.
The district originated as Sirpur-Tandur sub-district in 1872 and gained independence in 1905, named after Bijapur ruler Ali Adil Shah who controlled the region.
The population includes multiple tribal groups such as Gonds, Kolams, Pardhans, and Thotis, speaking Telugu, Marathi, Gondi, and Urdu throughout the territory.
The district maintains a network of public services including eight banks, eleven educational institutions, and one municipality to serve its 708,972 residents.
The territory contains substantial deposits of limestone and manganese ore, with 72 percent of its surface covered in black soil suitable for agriculture.
