Telangana, State in southern India
Telangana is a state in southern India divided into 31 administrative districts, with Hyderabad serving as the capital and largest metropolitan center. The territory covers a wide area that includes flat plains, gentle hills, and river valleys shaped by several waterways.
The territory became the 29th state of India on June 2, 2014, after separating from Andhra Pradesh following prolonged political movements and negotiations. Before that, it belonged for centuries to various ruling powers, including the Hyderabad Sultanate and later princely state.
Residents speak Telugu and observe customs visible during festivals such as Bathukamma and Bonalu, when women carry flower stacks and sing near temples in communal gatherings. In rural areas, agricultural rituals mark the rhythm of the farming year and bring neighbors together in shared ceremonies.
The state is accessible through Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and an extended railway network that links different districts across the region. Roads connect urban centers with rural areas, making it possible to travel between cities and countryside.
The region produces large quantities of cotton and rice, which are traded through local markets and wider commercial routes. At the same time, Hyderabad has grown into a major technology hub, home to numerous information technology companies and research centers.
