Ranga Reddy district, Administrative district in Telangana, India
Ranga Reddy is an administrative division in Telangana that extends south of Hyderabad and includes villages, small towns, and industrial areas. The territory covers over 5,000 square kilometers (roughly 1,940 square miles) and is divided into five main zones, each managed through smaller units.
The area became a separate administrative unit in 1978 when it was carved out from Hyderabad district to manage the growing region. Its name honors a former politician from Andhra Pradesh who served in regional government.
Telugu shapes daily life for most residents, who use it in markets, offices, and schools throughout the area. Education plays an important role in local communities, reflected in the fact that many families send children to learn reading and writing from an early age.
The main administrative office is located in a village near the capital, so visitors can explore different areas depending on their interests. Those planning to see multiple locations should allow several days since routes pass through country roads.
Two large reservoirs on the Musi River lie within this territory and supply drinking water to neighboring cities, flowing through pipelines into urban areas. Many visitors barely notice that these bodies of water sit inside the district boundaries rather than within the capital itself.
