Durgam Cheruvu Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Jubilee Hills, India
The Durgam Cheruvu Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing over a lake in Hyderabad, measuring 233 meters in length with six traffic lanes. The design also features separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians running parallel to the roadway.
Work on the crossing started in March 2019 and was completed by September 2020. Delays occurred due to the worldwide health crisis that temporarily slowed progress.
The structure connects two busy neighborhoods and shortens daily commutes for residents and workers considerably. In the evenings, changing lights transform the crossing into a popular spot for walks and meetings overlooking the lake.
The crossing shortens travel time between Jubilee Hills and Madhapur from 40 to 10 minutes, reducing congestion noticeably. Cycling lanes and pedestrian zones make it easier for all users to cross throughout the day.
Engineers used 428 tonnes of high-tensile strands and 4,800 tonnes of steel for suspension and load-bearing capacity. Additionally, 26,600 cubic meters of concrete were employed to build the foundation and support piers.
