Jagannath Temple, Hyderabad, Hindu temple in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India
Jagannath Temple is a Hindu temple in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India, rising about 70 feet (21 meters) high with walls built from red sandstone. The structure features several shrines and detailed carvings carried out by craftspeople from Odisha.
Planning for the temple began in 1992 by the Odia community in Hyderabad, with construction starting in 2004. The project reached completion in March 2009 after several years of work involving many craftspeople.
The temple takes its name from the original deity in Puri, Odisha, and reflects the religious traditions of the community from that region. Worshippers visit for daily prayers and ritual ceremonies, and the atmosphere fills with chants and the sound of bells.
The temple opens in the morning and evening for visitors, with a midday break, and does not charge admission. Visitors should remove their shoes before entering and wear modest clothing.
The outer walls display mythological murals that illustrate the story of the original Jagannath temple in Puri. After dark, modern lighting highlights the architecture.
