Lumbini Park, Public park near Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, India
Lumbini Park is a city park with three hectares (roughly seven acres) of green spaces along the shore of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. Walking paths lead along the water and through small plantings with fountains and shaded areas.
The site was opened in 1994 by the Buddha Purnima Project Authority and aimed to improve access to the lakefront. The government of Telangana guided the development of the grounds as a public recreation area.
The name refers to the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal and emphasizes the connection to the large stone monument in the lake. Families use the lawns along the shore for picnics and relaxation on weekends.
The park is open daily and offers a laser show each evening around 7:15 PM on weekdays. A metro station is nearby and allows easy travel from the city center.
Boat trips lead close to the stone monument and offer a view of the city skyline across the water. The rides are especially suitable at sunset for photographers.
