Balkampet Yellamma temple, Hindu temple in Balkampet, India

Balkampet Yellamma Temple is a Hindu shrine in Hyderabad dedicated to Yellamma, a form of Renuka. Its self-manifested image stands inside a well, with water flowing continuously behind the head of the goddess; devotees collect this water as Mahatirtha. The temple structure was built in 1919.

The temple's story begins in the 15th century when workers uncovered a stone statue of a goddess during excavation for a well. This chance discovery led to establishing this sacred place at that location.

The temple draws worshippers who come to perform rituals and connect with local devotion to the goddess. Festive days bring crowds together for prayer and communal ceremonies that shape the spiritual calendar.

The temple is open for visitors on most weekdays and provides parking spaces and restroom facilities for guest comfort. Wearing comfortable shoes is helpful since reaching the main sanctuary involves descending several steps.

The sanctuary takes its name from the fact that the main goddess statue remains partially submerged in water. This unusual feature makes it a place where water and devotion come together in an uncommon way.
