Shilparamam, Arts village in Madhapur, Hyderabad, India
Shilparamam is an arts village in Madhapur, Hyderabad, India, covering 26 hectares with pavilions, stalls, and exhibition areas displaying handicrafts, pottery, textiles, and paintings. The complex arranges itself around open courtyards where craft demonstrations and sales areas alternate with green spaces and walking paths.
The site opened in 1998 as a response to the desire to protect traditional Indian craftsmanship amid the expanding technology sector in Madhapur. Founders gathered craftspeople from different regions of India to present their skills in a shared location.
The name translates as "abode of craftspeople" and reflects the intention to create a living space where traditional makers work openly. Visitors walk among working studios where they watch weavers, sculptors, and painters practice methods handed down through generations.
Visitors can buy handmade items directly from craftspeople, join workshops, and watch cultural performances held throughout the year. Most stalls operate during daytime hours, and comfortable shoes help when exploring the sprawling grounds.
The Rock Museum, designed by Subrata Basu from Shantiniketan, incorporates natural rock formations into artistic installations that complement the ecological landscape. The museum area shows how boulders and stones serve as backdrops for sculptures and plantings.
