Chilkur Balaji Temple, Hindu temple in Rangareddy district, Telangana, India.
The Chilkur Balaji Temple rises along the shore of Osmansagar Lake and displays South Indian architecture with carved stone pillars and several prayer halls. The grounds include an open courtyard, smaller structures for rituals, and shaded walkways leading toward the inner shrines.
This shrine was established in the 14th century during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire and has retained its original construction elements through the present day. Worship here continued without interruption over centuries, with management remaining within the same family.
Worshippers walk eleven times around the inner shrine when expressing a wish and return for one hundred eight rounds once their hopes are fulfilled. This form of devotion combines physical movement with spiritual prayer and shapes the daily experience at the site.
The temple grounds open daily in the early morning and close in the evening, with a midday break. Visitors should bring comfortable footwear for walking the rounds and wear modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
The administration refuses monetary offerings and maintains no donation box, a practice rare among Indian temples. This choice preserves independence and keeps government oversight at bay.
