Purana pul, Stone road bridge in Hyderabad, India
The bridge extends 600 feet across the Musi River with 22 stone arches and measures 35 feet wide at 54 feet above water level.
Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah constructed this first bridge of Hyderabad in 1578 to establish connections between Golconda Fort and caravan routes.
The French explorer Tavernier documented the bridge structure during the Asaf Jahi period, comparing its architecture to Pont Neuf in Paris.
The bridge links the old city districts with newer Hyderabad areas, providing access to landmarks like Charminar and Laad Bazaar.
The stone structure maintains its original form after 400 years, with only minor repairs needed following the Musi River floods of 1908.
