Laad Bazaar, Historic bazaar near Charminar in Hyderabad, India.
Laad Bazaar is a market for glass jewelry and bangles in the old city of Hyderabad, India, just steps from Charminar. The stalls line a kilometer of narrow lanes where strings of glass beads hang beside silver earrings and bright fabric.
The market began during the Qutb Shahi dynasty in the 16th century and became a center for jewelry trading in the region. Hyderabad's Nizam rulers later kept it running and used it as an important commercial hub.
Craftspeople work in small street-side workshops shaping bangles from lacquer and decorating them with colored stones. Women often have pieces custom-made here for weddings and celebrations, while vendors adjust individual items directly in front of customers.
The lanes are closed to vehicles and the walk leads through covered sections where temperature stays a few degrees cooler. Most traders speak English and Urdu and expect bargaining before any purchase.
The name of the bazaar comes from the word for lacquer, the material used to make the bangles. More than 500 travelers from other countries visit the stalls daily to buy jewelry directly from the makers.
