Jama Masjid Gulbarga

The Jama Masjid spans 216 feet in length and 177 feet in width, featuring 250 arches across its structure and 63 small domes covering the central courtyard.

Persian architect Rafi designed this mosque in 1367 under Bahmani Sultan Mohammed Shah I following the establishment of Gulbarga as the capital after defeating Warangal.

The mosque incorporates elements from Spanish Moorish design, particularly in its entrance and overall structure, reflecting the architectural exchanges between different Islamic cultures.

The mosque opens daily from 9 AM to 5 PM except Saturdays, with designated areas for ritual purification near the entrance through two black stone water vessels.

Unlike traditional mosque designs, this structure contains no minarets but includes four large corner domes and multiple smaller domes covering what typically would be an open courtyard.
