Hyderabad district, Administrative district in Telangana, India
The district sits in Telangana and covers the central urban core of the metropolis, linking residential, commercial, and administrative quarters. The area remains compact compared to the wider metropolitan region that extends beyond its borders.
The area came into being after 1948 when administrative units were merged and incorporated into the new Indian Union. The structure changed again when Telangana became a separate state in 2014.
The name derives from the historic Nizām capital, whose influence remains visible in architecture and cuisine today. Local festivals bring together multiple faiths, and many residents speak two or three languages in daily life.
Public buses and suburban trains connect most parts, and taxis or app-based rides are widely available. Daytime temperatures often climb above 104°F (40°C) in summer, so early morning or late afternoon visits are more comfortable.
Although the administrative area is relatively small, more people live here than in some European cities. This concentration makes the area one of the most densely populated districts in the country.
