Kanaka Durga Temple, Hindu temple on Indrakeeladri hill in Vijayawada, India
Kanaka Durga Temple is a Hindu temple on Indrakeeladri hill in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The main statue shows the eight-armed goddess with traditional ornaments and weapons above the Krishna River.
The temple origins go back to the 8th century when it was built as a spiritual center for worshipping Goddess Kanaka Durga. It has served as an important pilgrimage site in Andhra Pradesh since then.
During the nine-day Dasara festival, the goddess appears in a different form each day, including Swarna Kavachalankara and Bala Tripurasundari. Devotees come during these special days to see the different forms and offer their worship.
The temple complex includes shrines for Vinayaka, Shiva, and Lord Rama and is accessible through multiple entrances throughout the year. Thousands of visitors come here, especially during festival days.
According to mythology, the hill was once a devotee named Keela who asked the goddess to remain in his heart forever. The goddess granted his wish and transformed him into the mountain where the temple stands today.
