Kondapalli Fort, Military fort in Krishna district, India
Kondapalli Fort is a military complex on a hill in Krishna district, India, built with thick stone walls and several watchtowers. The stronghold has three entrance gates and offers views over the surrounding plain.
The Reddy dynasty built the stronghold in the 14th century as a military base to control the region. The British used it from 1859 onwards as a training camp for their troops.
The site shows different building styles through its mix of Hindu temples and structures from Islamic periods that remain visible today. Visitors can walk through old barracks and see rooms where soldiers lived and worked across centuries.
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the climb goes over rocky ground. The site opens from sunrise to sunset, and guided tours help navigate between the ruins.
An English cemetery lies within the walls and recalls the British military presence in the 19th century. The eight-room barracks show colonial construction that differs from the older sections of the stronghold.
