Pali district, Administrative district in Jodhpur division, India
Pali district is an administrative division in southwestern Rajasthan covering 12,387 square kilometers. It borders Nagaur, Ajmer, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Sirohi, Jalore, Barmer, and Jodhpur districts across its landscape.
The region came under Kushana rule when King Kanishka conquered it in the 2nd century. Later, Pushyabhuti dynasty rulers such as Harshavardhana maintained control through the 7th century.
The district is home to numerous Jain temples displaying traditional Rajasthani architecture shaped by ancient trade routes. These religious structures remain central to how communities in the region define their local identity.
The area is well-connected by trains stopping at Pali station and regular bus services to major cities. Jodhpur airport serves as the nearest major gateway for air travel to the region.
The Pali Barr Conglomerate is designated as a National Geological Monument marking remnants of an ancient western sea. The rock formations here tell the story of a shoreline that existed millions of years ago.
