Faridabad is a large city in the state of Haryana that stretches south of Delhi along the Yamuna River. Wide roads link residential blocks, commercial districts and factory complexes spread over multiple sectors, with most structures built from concrete and brick.
Sheikh Farid, treasurer to Emperor Jahangir, established the settlement in 1607 as a protective station on the Grand Trunk Road between Delhi and Agra. After independence the town grew into an industrial center with planned sectors and manufacturing plants.
