North Sentinel Island, Protected island in Andaman Islands, India.

This island sits in the Bay of Bengal and is entirely covered by dense tropical forest that reaches up to the highest point at around 400 feet (120 meters). Coral reefs surround the coast and make any approach from the sea difficult.

In the late 18th century, the British East India Company recorded the first signs of human presence here during their explorations. Since then, the inhabitants have consistently refused any attempt at contact from outside and actively defend their territory.

The Sentinelese people continue to live as hunters and gatherers, following the same ways their ancestors did for thousands of years. They make their own tools and weapons from natural materials and use canoes to fish in the surrounding waters.

Indian law forbids any approach to this territory to protect the health of the indigenous population and respect their way of life. Visiting is not possible, and any attempt to reach the coast is both illegal and dangerous.

The inhabitants belong to the last communities on Earth that refuse all contact with the modern world and live in complete isolation. Their language remains unknown to outsiders, as nobody beyond the island can understand or speak it.
