M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Cricket field in Bangalore, India
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is a cricket ground in central Bengaluru with two playing ends named the Pavilion End and the BEML End. The ground holds 42,000 spectators and includes several covered stands that run along the length of the playing field.
The ground opened in 1969 and hosted its first test match in 1974 between India and the West Indies. Over the following decades, the facility underwent several expansions and upgrades to meet international standards.
The ground takes its name from M. Chinnaswamy, a former treasurer of the Indian cricket board. On match days, supporters arrive from across the city wearing team colors and waving homemade banners from the stands.
The nearest metro stop at Cubbon Park sits within walking distance and provides direct access to the grounds. During major matches, arriving early helps avoid crowding around the entrance gates as streets fill quickly.
The ground became the first in India to run entirely on solar power in 2011 and has since generated part of its own electricity. During matches, groundskeepers use recycled water from an onsite treatment system to maintain the pitch.
