The institution opened its physical location in February 2023 after launching a digital museum platform in December 2020 during global restrictions.
The collection contains over 20,000 artworks from the Indian subcontinent, organized into departments including Modern Art, Photography, Living Traditions, and Pre-Modern Art.
Located on Kasturba Road, the museum includes climate-controlled galleries with UV protection systems to preserve the extensive collection of artifacts.
The building incorporates hermetically sealed stainless steel materials and a veranda-plinth design that connects street life to interior spaces.
