Cubbon Park, Public park in Bangalore, India
Cubbon Park covers around 120 hectares with natural rock formations, bamboo groves, lawns, and walking paths in central Bangalore. The layout combines open green spaces with dense tree cover and hosts several public buildings within its boundaries.
A British military engineer laid out the grounds in 1870 and first named them after another official before adopting the commissioner's name. The grounds served as public recreation space during colonial rule and have maintained that function to the present day.
The name recalls the British commissioner who administered Bangalore during the mid-19th century. Walkers, joggers, and families use the wide paths mainly in the early morning and late afternoon when the heat subsides.
The many paths suit walking or jogging and remain passable even in rain. Several entrances allow access from different sides, so visitors can choose a convenient route.
A large aquarium sits within the grounds and ranks among the oldest in India. The layout also integrates official government buildings and cultural institutions among the tree clusters.
