Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, Government complex in Belagavi, India
Suvarna Vidhana Soudha is a government complex in Belagavi that covers 51 hectares and displays a central dome plus six smaller domes following Dravidian building principles. The four-story facility houses an assembly hall for 300 legislators, a council chamber, and ministerial offices.
The president inaugurated this building in 2012 for the golden jubilee of state formation. This legislative facility marked half a century since Karnataka emerged as a separate state.
The entrance inscription quotes Basavanna from the 12th century and declares that work itself can be divine. Visitors see these words when they pass through the main gate and witness how modern government work connects with spiritual tradition.
The complex sits in the city and can be viewed from the outside with the domes and facade clearly visible. Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active government building and access to certain areas may be restricted.
Atop the main dome sits an eight-ton Ashoka Chakra that measures 3.68 meters wide and 2.11 meters tall. A local art studio crafted this massive symbol that stands clearly visible from ground level.
